HOLY SPIRIT: TEACHER

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:26-27 ESV)

The Holy Spirit enables you to do greater things and helps you live a victorious life. The Holy Spirit also teaches.
What does this mean? Does this mean you no longer need schooling? Does this suggest you put aside other forms of training? Is there a conflict between faith and reason? Does the pursuit of education deny the power of God and the simplicity of faith?
Note the synonyms of the word “teach.”
·         Teach – the imparting of knowledge.
·         Instruct – systematized teaching.
·         Educate – formal systematic teaching.
·         Train – development of a skill.
·         School – development of a discipline.
The teaching dimension of the Holy Spirit is not a substitute for other ways of gaining knowledge and insight. He is an additional means of growth and development. The Holy Spirit does not replace education.
Three attributes come from formal instruction:
A person develops the ability to reason. Education may not provide answers but cultivates the skills to find them.
A person develops social skills. School demands interaction with others, involving cooperation with people of diverse personalities.
A person develops career skills. Learning involves on-the-job experience, gaining ability from the trial and errors of others in similar pursuits.
Some attempt to fulfill a divine calling solely on the pretense that the Holy Spirit will teach them. In those cases vocational ministry becomes their educator and the Holy Spirit becomes their Comforter. There is no ministry without preparation, both structured and hands-on.
Jesus discloses what the Holy Spirit teaches: “Will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” He teaches and reminds. He imparts knowledge and brings back from memory things previously learned.
A follower of Jesus is forever a student and life is the classroom. No one will ever have enough “gray hairs” to indicate they have nothing more to learn.
Jesus declares the motivation of His teaching is peace of mind. The Lord does not want you troubled or fearful.
Three lessons are included in the teaching package of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit teaches the meaning of “Christian”

The book of Acts states the name Christian was first used in the town of Antioch. The term eventually became institutionalized and causes many to misunderstand the importance of an intimate relationship with God.
The title “Christ” expresses Jesus as the Anointed One, meaning ministering in the fullness of the Spirit’s power. The Holy Spirit teaches how to be people passionately abiding in the fullness of God.
Regularly ask yourself: “Am I passionate for a cause or for the Christ? Those looking at me (and you are looked at all the time), are they seeing a promoter of Christ or a promoter of a cause? Do I accurately represent Jesus? Is my life revealing genuine Christlike transformation? Through divine power and passion do I reflect the Prince of peace?” The teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit elevates a passion for the Lord Jesus.
I often encounter people impassioned for causes – fighting corruption and injustice, supplying humanitarian aid, alleviating suffering, combating contagious diseases, addressing human trafficking and enslavement, protecting defenseless victims from abuse and death, vigorously defending private and home education against public. Without minimizing innumerable causes, I only wish many of these same people would be more passionate about Jesus, and better represent Him in their approach to social ills and personal concerns.
People are more turned off by religious zeal than by the passionate pursuit of God, by those attending church allowing slow results and pent-up frustrations to create reprehensible feelings and repulsive actions. Anyone seeking truth quickly loses interest in God when witnessing tunnel vision pursuits and poor behavior. Christ-centered enthusiasm must have precedence in order for others to experience life-change.
The Pentecostal Movement is not identified as much for mission as for passion to fulfill the mission. The mission of the church is making disciples and those full of the Holy Spirit are known for passionately revealing Jesus to a sin-sick world. If the mission fails, the reason will not be a lack of strategy but a lack of passion.
The Holy Spirit has come to teach the meaning of living passionately for Jesus.

The Holy Spirit teaches the Kingdom of God

Everyone builds a kingdom. The question is whose kingdom is being built? Unfortunately some build their own. They ultimately will be disappointed. The Holy Spirit has come to teach how to establish and abide in the Kingdom of God.
What is in the final design of God’s realm? “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17 ESV)
Many live with the “cares of this world.” The Holy Spirit teaches you to “not be anxious for tomorrow….” (Matthew 6:34)
Jesus said, “…do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it…. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:29, 32)
Jesus also said, “…do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.” (Luke 12:4)
Many occupied with living for the moment need to be taught the power of God’s sovereignty. God reigns in righteousness, peace and joy. They are inner related.
Righteousness – a right standing before God being given, not earned. Decisions are no longer based on what is commonly practiced by others or what is socially acceptable. They are based on truth, what is right and what is good. In Kingdom righteousness people do not live restrained by the law of the land. They are motivated in Christ toward ethical behavior.
Peace – the result of being right with God. Everyone hopes and seeks for an end to human conflict and suffering. Kingdom peace is not dependent on circumstances or situations. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, not as the world gives.” When in a right standing with God what is there to fear?
Joy – the result of having peace with God. Kingdom joy helps you see beyond circumstances and into the face of Jesus. Distressful conditions easily act as barriers, an obstacle or a wall distracting you from seeing Christ. When they succeed you are robbed of joy. If you look above inevitable traumatic situations, you will see His face and joy will return. Just ask Stephen! (Acts 7:54-60)
The Holy Spirit has come to teach you the Kingdom of God.

The Holy Spirit teaches how to communicate God’s story

Luke records, “And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” (Luke 12:11-12 ESV)
Peter writes, “…in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…” (1 Peter 3:15 ESV)
Paul writes, “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” (Colossians 4:6 ESV)
Paul also writes, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God….” (Ephesians 4:29-30 ESV)
The book of Acts gives witness of the actions of the early church:
Peter seizes the opportunity caused by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and three thousand people become believers. A simple fisherman newly empowered by the Holy Spirit communicates the Good News. (Acts 2:37-41)
Peter seizes the opportunity caused when a lame man is healed and the church grew by at least another two thousand. When defending his actions the testimony was, “they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13)
Stephen seizes an opportunity and the narrative states, “These men began to argue with Stephen, but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.” (Acts 6:9-10)
Paul seizes the opportunity when presenting his case to King Agrippa and is told, “Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?” (Acts 26:28)
The Holy Spirit teaches how to effectively use any circumstance to communicate God’s story. A believer should study Scripture and pray continuously to gain a greater sensitivity to the Holy Spirit who teaches how to seize the opportunity and maximize the moment.
I have some clearly thought out convictions about abstinence from alcoholic beverages. This is often debated in various religious circles. Years ago a young college couple brought the issue up in conversation. Their primary argument was from the book of Proverbs, which indicates drunkenness and gluttony are equally wrong.  Church people constantly overeat so drinking should not be considered any more wrong than eating too much.
Sensing a quickening in my soul I seized the opportunity and responded, “The difference is the outcome. We never hear of a wife being beaten or someone being killed in a car accident by a person eating too much but hear of this happening frequently because someone drank too much.” Without condoning gluttony, they cannot be viewed equally.

Teacher

The divine Enabler, Helper and Teacher is available to those having faith in God. He teaches how to be an anointed and passionate follower of Jesus, He teaches how to establish and abide in the Kingdom of God, and He teaches how to seize the opportunity for communicating God’s story. His teachings lead to greater peace and inward calmness, eradicating any sense of trouble and fear.
Do you fear world events? Are you overwhelmed by life and feeling hopeless? The age of mass media develops an overwhelming environment. Excessive information sometimes causes alarm – frightening and scary. Television news can leave a person depressed. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. He teaches the promises of God and gives hope for the future. Divine peace is available only through Him.

HOLY SPIRIT: HELPER

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:16-18 ESV)

Jesus promised to send another Helper in His place. The Greek word Paraclete means “One called alongside to help.”
High School graduation was a major milestone in my life. During the Vietnam War a young man moved quickly into the threshold of adulthood.
The end of High School came with an element of excitement and adventure. The excitement was anticipating a success-filled future. What new risks would be achieved? The adventure was the actual quest. What undertakings would be passionately pursued?
During High School did you believe things would be different when the classroom regiment was over? You probably discovered you were right, but maybe not the way you originally thought. Some discover how it feels to be lacking funds, skipping a meal. Most everyone experience needs greater than supply.
When I was sick with strep throat in a military barracks near San Antonio, Texas, my mom in Seattle, Washington was not there to give comfort. Celebrating Christmas without family on a small Asian island was just another day, nothing out of the ordinary.
In adulthood a person experiences new forms of competitiveness and witnesses greater levels of deceitfulness. You become fully exposed to bigotry and injustice. Without the protective covering of parents come higher levels of pain, loneliness and possibly depression.
The world imagined in mom and dad’s home is not always the world experienced afterwards. Parents keep children from harm, under their roof various actions are banned or restricted. Younger people can easily get caught up in the many delusions of life. Everyone has the potential of ending up a miserable mess.
In the midst of numerous risks Jesus sent a Helper. You are never without the parentage of the Heavenly Father. You are not orphans.

The coming of the Helper

Jesus fully experienced the pressures of life. He knew the power of temptation. He was continually aware and on guard against the impure motives of others. Religious leaders constantly tried to trick Him, trip Him up with His own words. He underwent rejection and scorn. He personally went through the worst this world can do to anyone. To everyday pressures Jesus promised His followers the same reliable help, an always with them Helper.
Believers are to rely upon and be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. With His dependable aid you can confidently see the light at the end of numerous dark tunnels, regularly encountered.
When a teenager leaves home a parent cannot help them as they once did. Mom and dad want to help but not like before, doing so would be crippling not helping.
A story was written about an African king who thought himself great, wonderful and very important, so important he believed someone of his stature should never have to walk but be carried by servants.
For years he was hauled everywhere. One day his servants were transporting him down a jungle path when a lion leaped upon the trail. The servants dropped the king and fled. The king’s legs were useless. He could not walk, let alone run. He became the supper of the lion.
Young adults must use their own legs and flee the various lions seeking to devour, they cannot always be carried by their parents. A transition must occur when mom and dad cheer from the sidelines but no longer play in the game.
When a person becomes a follower of Jesus nothing in their past can cause them to fail. Born into poverty does not doom someone to live an impoverish life. A victim of abuse need not remain imprisoned to the wounds of cruelty and exploitation.
You have a Helper who gives accurate and genuine help. You are not an orphan without divine parental aid and encouragement.

The work of the Helper

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:1-11 ESV)
The Holy Spirit helps you have an abundant life. “…every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” (V.2)
The Helper comes to your efforts, streamlines and tightens them up, and the same energy becomes more productive. Yet God does not bless idleness. Bearing fruit starts with you, making more fruit possible.
A popular saying is “You cannot steer a motionless vehicle, it must be moving.”Abundant life is not discovered just sitting around but by doing what can be done with what you have, with assurance the Helper will make it better.
The Holy Spirit helps you have a meaningful life. “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (V. 5)
Life without Jesus is meaningless, a pathway to nothingness. He is the Vine. He gives purpose to your day and activities. Your life has eternal value and activities done in Christ reap wonder-filled dividends. Careers and professions may not be church related but everything done with reliance on Jesus is fruitful.
The Holy Spirit helps you have a righteous life. You may never have an article written about you in Fortune 500 but your name is inscribed in the Book of Life.
Proverbs 10-12 reveals the life of the righteous is delivered from harmful ways. They are firmly rooted and bearing life-giving fruit. They also rest on everlasting foundations and are not easily shaken. In a world on shaky ground politically, economically and socially, the Holy Spirit helps you righteously stand on steady heavenly footings.
The Holy Spirit helps you have a joyful life. “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (V.11)
Sports fans always express excessive exuberant when their team ends up in the championship match. This is nothing in comparison to the constant joy of a Spirit-filled life.
Life can be awfully miserable when attempts are made to live independently. Jesus offers His joy, discovered in the Holy Spirit. Connect with the Vine. The Helper gives the nutrients that yield joyful abundance, a branch bearing fruit supernaturally.

The results of the Helper

The emphasis so far has been the personal help of the Holy Spirit. His help is not just for you. Jesus clearly declares, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
The coming of the Helper is for disclosing Jesus to others. The results of His activities are the nations giving glory to God. “He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:14 ESV) Take what is His and fully declare Him to others.
What the Holy Spirit does in you is to reveal Jesus to others. How contrary to the mindset of contemporary cultures! Currently people are conditioned to watch out for themselves and prompted to pursue self-gratification. The God who created you has designed fulfillment to be connected to the benefits of one another.
If what you do with your life is in Christ, you have the assurance of the divine Helper leading you to greater fulfillment.

You have help

Gain sensitivity to the leading of the Spirit and always lean on the counsel of the Helper. Acquire an ability to know His voice above all others. He will help you in ways people and possessions cannot. You are not an orphan. The Holy Spirit helps you be a blessing to others, rendering glory to God.
Develop a spiritual ear to the beckoning call of the Spirit. Learn of Him in Scripture. Faithfully and earnestly depend on Him in prayer. Ask the Lord for the ongoing ability to recognize the promptings of the Spirit. Faithfully live out His plan for your life.

HOLY SPIRIT: ENABLER

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. (John 14:8-18 ESV)

The ministry of the Holy Spirit is described throughout Scriptures in a variety of defining ways. He is the Helper, giving aid through life. He is the Teacher, providing the lessons of life and disclosing correct answers to the questions of life. He is the One who Convicts, confronting the rebellious nature.
The Holy Spirit is also the Enabler. He gives the ability, creates the means, and presents the opportunity. He then makes human efforts more effective, making possible things considered virtually impossible.
The word enabler in modern times has taken on negative connotations, suggesting co-dependency to debilitating and demeaning behavior. The Holy Spirit is just the opposite, delivering and dignifying.
Jesus accommodates a request from Philip to “show us the Father.” He states the Father is visible in His life in three ways. If Philip looked openly he would see the Father in the inward nature of Jesus (V.9). If Philip listened intently he would hear the Father in the reliable words of Jesus (V.10). If Philip observed carefully he would witness the Father in the supernatural activities of Jesus (V.11).
Jesus then applied the statement to His followers: “Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” His going is associated with the sending of the Holy Spirit, the Enabler.
People today still ask the request given by Philip, show us the Father. The church, the Body of Christ, is commissioned to disclose the One True God to every nation.
Does this cause a sense of alarm? What an overwhelming expectation. Followers of Jesus do not possess a perfect demeanor nor are they all powerful. The obligation is humanly impossible, so much responsibility with so little capability.
The threefold response of Jesus to Philip is the clue to showing God to the world. The nations are asking and believers are able because of the Enabler.

He enables you to show the inward nature of Jesus

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh…. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:16, 22-24 ESV)
The Enabler implants divine characteristics, the natural qualities of Jesus, the attributes expressing genuineness that can disarm skeptics.
Those not knowing Christ are bogged down in faithless lifestyles, living as doubters. They view followers of Jesus through tinted classes, assuming everyone has selfish motives and arrogant attitudes. The fruit of the Spirit is designed to impact the cynic’s opinion.
When serving in church ministry in Montana, I supplemented the family income by being a Glazer, a glass worker. The co-workers were raw and rough. They constantly formulated sentences with every imaginable debased innuendo. While driving home from work, in preparation for conversations with my wife and kids, I put my mind through a divine washing, a spiritual cleansing through singing and praying.
A new church assignment became available in South Dakota and we made plans to relocate. On my last day at work an extremely raunchy employee came up to me and said, “I have been watching you. Maybe there is something to this church stuff. I am going to have to check it out!” People do notice the Lord you serve, whether Jesus or some other.
Christ’s love – self-giving, unconditional, vulnerable and enduring. Pure love is often misunderstood, exploited and abused. Followers of Jesus willfully take the risk and become exposed to possible hurt and rejection.
Christ’s joy – comprehending life from an eternal perspective gives an inward glow, a deep-seated satisfaction.
Christ’s peace – world situations are increasingly non-peaceful. Unholy ambitions make for strife and division. Yet the church is to reveal, “For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility. (Ephesians 2:14 ESV)
Christ’s patience – having a long fuse. A man known for having a short fuse, a quick temper, owned a car dealership. He committed his life to Christ and employees were amazed at how he gracefully managed problems previously causing outbursts of anger. He gained the fruit of peace and was transformed in Jesus.
Christ’s kindness – “There was a man who had a heart transplant. But the operation was a total failure. For the man was a mean man and the heart was a kind heart.  His body simply rejected it.” (Helen Brenneman) The fallen nature has a natural propensity to be unkind. A place where most believers fall short is in failing to be considerate. The Holy Spirit gives a new heart, making a person compassionate.
Christ’s goodness – a sincere, honest and moral heart.
Christ’s faithfulness – trustworthy and reliable.
Christ’s gentleness – sometimes referred to as power under perfect control, restraint coupled with strength and courage, being courteous and modest.
Christ’s self-control – the capacity to manage emotions, desires and impulses for the purpose of serving others.
To a world wanting to see the purely integrated Jesus, the Enabler gives you the ability to show His everyday attributes.

The Holy Spirit enables you to speak uprightly the words of Jesus

James writes about a major obstacle toward talking honorably: “…the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness…. But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing.” (James 3:3-10 ESV)
Responding to others like Jesus is a monumental task. The Enabler shapes the heart of believers to be like Christ.
Jesus said, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. (Matthew 12:34 ESV)
Jesus also said, “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.” (Matthew 12:36 ESV)
Your words express your devotion to God. A sharp tongue, a crude tongue, a thoughtless tongue, a slanderous tongue, and a bitter tongue is an unholy tongue. The unchurched recognize this deficiency. When an unholy tongue is manifested Jesus is not heard in the conversation. Take on His heart and the Holy Spirit cleans out your mouth.
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:29-30 ESV)
As a young teenager I had a rotten mouth. The only words I used were crude. The only jokes I knew were coarse. After committing my life to Christ vocabulary usage became a major challenge. I desperately needed the heart of Jesus and for the Enabler to cultivate wholesome speech.
To a world wanting you to show the heartfelt communicative Jesus, the Enabler gives you the ability to speak His words, His way.

The Holy Spirit enables you to reveal the supernatural activities of Jesus

Jesus gave strict instructions to His followers: “And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49 ESV)
A week later, not knowing what to expect, the power came and impacted their tongue. “And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:3-4 ESV)
Peter then tells a gathering crowd, “Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him….” (Acts 2:22 ESV) and concludes with an invitation, “For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
(Acts 2:39 ESV)
The Holy Spirit gives the ability for the supernatural activities of Jesus. The grace actions recorded in First Corinthians 12 validates the promise “…whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12 ESV)
The gifts of the Spirit are the reason God’s story is confirmed with signs and wonders. Supernatural manifestations are not the message, Jesus is the good news. Yet signs and wonders give credibility to His story.
You need to include the supernatural activities of Jesus to fully present Him to others. The grace actions add potency to the message of grace. Eight times the book of Acts directly connects signs and wonders with the telling of His story.
Paul and Barnabas went to speak to the people of Galatia. Acts records, “So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.” (Acts 14:3 ESV)
The world is waiting for you to show the doing the impossible Jesus. The Enabler gives you the ability to perform His supernatural activities.

An inclusive testimony

You cannot give an accurate witness of Jesus by just living His natural life or speaking His gracious words or revealing His supernatural activities. Showing the world Jesus involves all three. Living His natural life validates His word. Speaking His gracious words accredits His signs and wonders. Manifesting His supernatural activities certifies His Lordship.
I became exposed to the reality of Jesus by meeting a person living for Him, who brought me to church to hear about Him, in a worship service supernaturally revealing Him. My soul was demanding, “show me Jesus.” I was given a genuine witness of His nature, words and activities, made possible by the Enabler.
Become fully enabled and represent Him inclusively to others.
